"Surely you are joking, right? This can't be serious. These days will go as the biggest shame in human history..."
This is what the voice in my head said after reading the article “Talking to the Refugees Hiding in Serbia's Abandoned Factories” by Klaus Petrus on VICE.
States have hijacked the right of movement from us and these people are forced to live like cattle in stables and barns. Then there are some people with a heart going through God knows how much trouble to feed them. (Sorry, it's just a way of saying. You want to keep God out of this, you may. Steve Cohen, an immigration lawyer and an ardent proponent of abolition of immigration controls argues that to make controls fair will take a miracle. And God is not in this equation.)
Movement is not a right and it cannot be put in the category of Freedom either.
#FreedomOfMovement is like #Freedom2Breathe What a strange thing that would be to say?
It is like #Freedom2CombYourHair #Freedom2WashYourFaceInTheMorning
“Only in the morning?”
Okay, I correct. #Freedom2WashYourFace #Freedom2WashYourFaceWheneverYouWish
#Freedom2Sit #Freedom2Eat #Freedom2... I guess I don't need to go on anymore, you get what I mean.*
Yes, these days will go as the biggest shame in human history... True, there have been many shames in our history: genocides, massacres, slavery, exploitation... Unfortunately, they abound. But this one is sort of special. “Why?” you might ask. Because every single state in the world is complicit in this crime. It is a universal crime. It is a crime on a global scale.
And we are all complicit in this.
No, I exclude myself and some others (those who are against borders and controls). Those of you who do not speak up against this injustice at birth are all complicit in this crime.
Emile Zola accused only one president, I accuse all heads of state for the killing of these babies and many others, I hold them responsible for all the deaths in vain, for all the torture people have gone through in camps and in detention centers. History shall record that it was under their rule this crime against humanity was committed. The crime of crippling people's basic nature, i.e. Movement. All the politicians of today will carry with them “the most shameful and indelible of stains.”
