Marta Foresti- in her article “Refugees and migrants: the view from this week's New York summits” concludes:
“I came away with a strong – and possibly controversial – thought: this is not an agenda for the UN to lead. It cannot be settled through resolutions, declarations or global consultations. What we need is the kind of strong political leadership and resolve that Obama, Merkel and Trudeau have shown in different ways in the past year or so. That’s the fuel that will keep the engine going for the next two years. So less talk, more politics, and then action.” I have had this strong – and possibly controversial – thought for a long long time. Resolutions, declarations or global consultations... These are good for show. What we need is action! Perhaps what we need is a benevolent world dictator who will take over the reigns, make drastic changes in our political and financial system, and put things on a straight track. However, as it's impossible for anyone to be a world dictator, what we need is, as Ms. Foresti suggests, strong political leadership and resolve from the presidents and PMs of the “big” countries. *** Well... This reminds me of the genie that was asked to build a highway across the Pacific. The genie said “Think of all the work and challenges involved for such an undertaking. Do you have an idea how long the bridge would have to be? The supports to hold up the highway need to reach so deep to the bottom of the ocean, and over such a long span. So much cement and steel needed. You'd also need several gas stations and rest stops along the way. And you need to take into account the maintenance of that bridge. No, it's too much to ask, think of another wish.” When the man answered saying “Then I wish to understand women,” the genie replied "Would you like that bridge with two lanes or four?" So maybe we should wish for that world dictator instead of strong political leadership and resolve from our current leaders. Would you like that benevolent world dictator a man or a woman, mortal or immortal?
