What I want to do

November 2016
The first country of my “To Every Country In The World” mission was Romania. It was the first time we separated from my husband. So I did something which I rarely do, which is mostly forgotten in our digital age: I sent him a postcard. ![]() Then I thought it was a good idea. Sending postcards that is... I said “I should be sending postcards from every country I go to on this mission.” Okay.
Next was North Korea. While looking at the postcards in Pyongyang, there were Christmas postcards with Santa Claus, with snowmen, postcards with children... Of course, as a mother, the first thing you think about when you see such things is: “My daughter would have liked this.” So I decided “Yes, I should send Lara a postcard as well, along with Carlo. They will be letters from the past from her mother. I would have treasured such cards had I got them!” Now we are about to set off for the next ten countries on the mission. The Caribbean and the Amazon. My mind is expanding. This time I said “Why not send other people postcards too?” It could be an excuse for people to support me. Anybody who wants a postcard from any of the countries I'll be going can send me 20 Euros and their address, and I'd send them a postcard. I said “Why not?” So let's try it out. If you'd be interested in getting a postcard from any of the countries coming up, please donate 20-50 Euros (or more if you wish) and send me your address. I will try to do my best to send you a postcard from the country of your choice; in case it won't be possible, -as travel is travel, you can never guarantee finding a postcard or a post office any place you go,- you will be getting a postcard from the next country I go to. We were discussing this idea with Carlo. He said “What do you do if you have to send a hundred postcards? Writing and sending so many... That's a lot of work.” I said “Yeah, but it's a lot of money too.” He calculated. “Yes, 2000 Euros.” I said “It won't be 2000 Euros, there is the postcard and the stamps. That would cost 500 at least.” “Still, what do you do if it gets out of hand?” One Time Offer I said “This is a one time offer. From next trip on it's going to be 50 Euros per postcard.” “So you are going to do like Uber? The more customers you have, the scarce the drivers, the more expensive it gets,” commented Carlo. “Eh, that's supply and demand,” I answered. “And yes, the countries I'll be travelling from now on are the really less-travelled ones. So it's going to be more difficult and challenging for me. I need more support. So the prices are going to be increasing. From 20 to 50, then to 100 Euros.” Plus, this is not about getting a postcard, it's about supporting a mission to #EndInjusticeAtBirth. We may not be able to eliminate all injustices in the world. But we sure need to be able to eliminate a worldwide injustice that starts at birth, an injustice that cauterizes babies in the cradle with a nationality and has a deep impact on them all their life. This is what that money is for. The point is to be a part of this mission; the postcard is the bonus, it's a “Thank you” present from me. It's a badge of honor. It's a token of pride. It's a memento of significant times. It's a keepsake, a reminder of Global Apartheid. It's an insignia of a higher identification. It's a regalia. It's a memorabilia of being a part of the making of history.* Take your pick. Or define what it is for you. And have a look at the upcoming trip to take your pick of the country where you might like a postcard from. * I know I am exaggerating. But I am also serious in a way. You need to understand that I need to keep my spirits up, keep my motivation up. Without such a belief in what I am doing, without thinking it will be making a difference in the world, there is no way I can go on with this project nobody really cares about! I will be going to every country in the world only to burn my passports even if not a single soul in this world cares about it. Yet, I'm sure there are people out there who care. I consider them as family. I'm curious as to how big a family I have. I would also like to meet my family members.
